At Windy Pastures Alpaca
Farm we "Strive for Quality and Aim for the
Best".
Windy Pastures is committed to the genetic
improvement through diversification of bloodlines, which are carefully
selected. We are continually striving for improvement in the quality of
our Alpacas with regards to fibre, density, colour and
confirmation.
In order to accomplish our goals we have been
very selective in the choice of our herdsires. They are carefully chosen
in relation to the characteristics we are aiming to strengthen, or
introduce into our herd.
Windy Pastures owns some of these outstanding
sires, while others have been chosen from other quality Alpaca farms for
selected breedings.
The following sires have been used at Windy
Pastures for select females.
ACCOYO'S JULIACA OF WEST WOOL
ALPACAS (PERUVIAN) (Pictured to the
Right)
Juliaca is from Don Julio
Barrada's herd. The most renowned Alpaca breeder in Peru. He is big,
bold and beautiful with very dense fleece. He consistently
throws offspring with soft crimpy fleeces and colour when bred to
colour females. |
WEST WOOLS CROMWELL (
PERUVIAN) (pictured to the left)
Cromwell, son of Accoyo's El
Moustachip, won the1999 International Fleece Competition, judged by
Dr. Julio Sumar from Peru. He won Supreme Grand Champion fleece
overall. His mother won third in her division. 87 fleeces were
entered from the USA, CANADA and AUSTRALIA in the division -
an amazing accomplishment!
His picture says it
all!
Cromwells' characteristics of
fibre, confirmation, and his ability to throw offspring with colour
are evident in his cria. |
ACERO MARKA'S SINABAR (
BOLIVIAN) (pictured to the right)
Sinabar is owned by Vintage
Alpacas and was the herdsire of choice for a select few females.
Sinabar was the top selling male in Red Deer in 1996 and has many
champion cria living up to his name.

(CHILIAN) (pictured to the left)
This herdsire was the Grand
Champion Alpaca Male at the Red Deer Alpaca Fest July 1997. He was
also the Reserve Champion in May 1997 at the Chinook Challenge. Wild
Rose Grand Slam was also the Winner of the Fleece Competition in
November 1996 at Northlands. Eleven Pounds shear weight. Proven
herdsire.
Grand Slam almost always throws
offspring the colour of the female, which makes it easy to breed for
colour. His confirmation is perfect and his cria consistently
inherit his fibre attributes and confirmation.
Grand Slam is available for a
select number of outside breedings.
